RSVP Etiquette

RSVP etiquette! Why in the world folks don’t follow up when invited to an event that requires sending back an RSVP is beyond me! It is the highest form of insult! Do you send back an RSVP or ignore it?

  1. I see from the embedded link that it says, in part:

“RSVP …. with wedding etiquette there is often a separate card that you should mail back. No matter the form of communication, please do not delay. It is rude and leaves your hosts hanging. While the deadline for more casual affairs may be a few days before the event, caterers need a certain amount of notice for changing their figures.”

Daughter Lisa had requested invitees to her wedding to RSVP by June 30, and she included a separate RSVP card postage paid return mailing. She kept her invitations limited to only very close relatives in order to keep the wedding to a small scale. She had to notify the caterers for the sit-down dinner of the number of guests no later than July 6.

I have no idea why, but she did not get a response from her Uncles Jan, Rich, and Daryl or from her Aunts Cheryl and Barb — all on my side of the family. Apparently, they do not intend to attend; but, regardless, the caterer will not have any meals for them since the count has already been turned in. I wish my brothers and sister and sister-in-law (wife of my eldest brother Bob who is deceased) would have at least given some kind of response to Lisa.

Lisa had used a cut-off line in determining who to invite; and that cut-off was at uncles and aunts. She did not invite cousins from my side of the family basically because of the large size of my extended family. Had Lisa known that these aforementioned uncles and aunts were not going to attend, she would have invited other family members.

  2. I really appreciated the fact that my brother Ron and his wife Mary took the time to attend Lisa and Dan’s wedding and reception. I still cannot understand why my other siblings failed to RSVP to Lisa. What a slap in her face, that was!

  3. Jesús Gonzáles says:

I always RSVP. It is the right thing to do. As to those who do not RSVP, it is amazing how rude and inconsiderate some people can be!. How hard is it to RSVP?

  4. Tracy Jenkins says:

Did any of the relatives of Roland other than his brother Ron at least send a card to Lisa congratulating her on her marriage?

  5. Judy says:

And so it continues, the lack of RSVP Etiquette! And we call these folks Grown-Ups, grow-up!
