"Luck and Pluck"

Horatio Alger Jr. born January 13, 1832, is best known for his rags-to-riches tales (over 100 in all). In fact, today any recounting of triumph over humble beginnings is known as a “Horatio Alger story.” Fascinating as well is the fact that Alger was a Phi Beta kappa graduate of Harvard, who studied under Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and originally intended to become a poet.
